A Marketing Lesson from Biodiversity
If you stick with me for a second, I will reveal to you a powerful marketing lesson that we can learn from world around us.
It’s a lesson that will strengthen you as a content marketer and/or it will increase the impact and power of your content marketing.
And it all starts with biodiversity.
“Biodiversity is a shorthand term for biological diversity, or the rich variety of life on Earth.”
Just how much diversity is there on our planet?
Well, scientists have so far named and identified 8.7 million different species.
- 950,000 species of insects
- 391,000 species of plants
- 34,000 species of fish
- 6,000 species of reptiles
- 4600 species of amphibians
- 10,000 species of birds
- 5,416 species of mammals.
This list doesn’t include mollusks, worms, spiders, fungi, algae, and microorganisms.
Why Biodiversity is So Important
One of the reasons biodiversity is important is because it helps to keep the environment in a natural balance. How?
Because an ecosystem which is species – rich is much resilient and able to external stress than one in where the range of species is limited.
- That’s why a whole corn field will die out when attack by a disease.It has no diversity! It all has the same strengths and weaknesses.
- And that’s why the Rainforest can survive a disease. It’s because it’s so diverse! It’s has all different types of strengths and weaknesses.
Marketing Diversity?
The way to strengthen yourself as a content marketer and the way to strengthen your content marketing is by learning a lesson from bioversity.
Too many content marketers and too much content marketing relies too much on the principles, concepts, and techniques of content marketing alone.
If you begin to learn some direct response marketing principles, concepts, and techniques, then they would become a stronger marketer and your marketing would have more impact.
(The reverse is also true for direct marketers. If they would learn more of the principles, concepts, and techniques from the content marketing industry, then they would also become stronger marketers and their marketing would have more impact.)
But wait it gets even better.
